英文原文:An Irish research group has developed a technology which enables synthetic carbohydrates to be coated onto surfaces using low cost coating techniques. These coatings prevent biofilm formation by inhibiting initial microbial binding & have potential as antifouling coatings in industrial applications. The group are seeking development partnerships or licensing opportunities with materials or coatings companies or those in need of antifouling surface properties or coatings. Firstly the use of carbohydrates in this way is innovative in its own right. The materials used in the process are non-biocidal in nature. Reagents used in the coating process are chemically bound to the surface so leaching is not a problem. The coating is passive and does not damage the substrate material. Advantages include the following, - The coating is applicable to a wide range of substrate materials. - The coating can be applied using low cost, readily available, coating methods - Lends itself to industrial coating / production processes - This is a single step low cost coating process - The technology is applicable to situations where the surfaces are not readily accessible for mechanical cleaning or where the coated materials are deployed remotely for long periods of time.
